The botanical name of birch tar oil is Betula alba. This ornamental tree is native to the northern hemisphere and it grows up to 15-20 meters in long. It is thin branches, silver-white bark broken into scales and light green oval leaves. Its aroma is spicy, sweet, and minty with a wintergreen chewing gum odor with rapid sweet and woody aroma. Birch oil can be helpful in reducing pain in the joints and muscles, as well as pain associated with headaches. Birch tar oil has known to be in use as a skin toner.
